3Mind Blight as an artist produces music by a feeling or emotion. Stylistically the genres change according to mood and often times several genres are blended into each new song.
‘Reflections’ is a collaboration between artist 3Mind Blight with National Recording Artist Sophie Dorsten, an Indie/Pop Singer-Songwriter. Sophie has been releasing EP’s and singles since she was 13. Her latest release is a collaboration with 3Mind Blight titled ‘Reflections.” She was excited to try a new genre/vibe and hope it shows her versatility.
Please Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..
3Mind Blight: Multi Genre Award Winning Artist
Dorsten: I’m a National Recording Indie/Pop Singer-Songwriter.
What made you want to get into music?
3Mind Blight: When I was two I fell in love with the piano and all the sounds it could make and as I got older added on with all instruments I could find
What’s the writing process?
3Mind Blight: It all depends on the song. I like to watch it like a video in my head and as the scenes unfold the words come to me.
What comes first lyrics or music?
3Mind Blight: Mostly it is both at the same time but I would say music and the lyrics after.
Dorsten: Music comes first. I believe all of my songs have always started with music. I first go to my guitar to make up something cool, then I put a melody over it. I then have a writing day for lyrics, and determine what the song is saying and what I want the song to be about. When I write with my brother we do it the same way.
What has been the best gig you’ve ever played and why?
Dorsten: My favourite show was last January at the Marquee Theatre here in Tempe, Arizona – several hundred peeps and all my friends and family were there. The energy was amazing – it was a blast!.
What was the last track you played on Spotify?
Dorsten: The last song I played on Spotify is “Wanderer” by “From Indian Lakes”.
3Mind Blight: Alice in Chains.
What other talents do you have?
3Mind Blight: Author, Poet, Art Design, and Producer
Dorsten: I love to paint – I always create my single covers myself.
If you could open for any artist who would it be?
Dorsten: I would love to open for “Hippo Campus”
What other bands do we need to be checking out right now?
Dorsten: An artist I’m loving right now is “Eleni Drake” . I love her song “Peaches”
3Mind Blight: BaYaT and Sophie Dorsten
How are you coping with lockdown?
Dorsten: I am doing pretty good with lockdown, I’m more of an introvert, and I find it easy to entertain myself as an artist, I am continually song writing and feel so creative. Don’t get me wrong there are days that I feel sick of being home, but I honestly think that as a musician I’ve used this time for improvement and experimenting.
How is lock down effecting the music scene?
3Mind Blight: It is taking away from the live feel of music and changes the landscape
What do you miss most about live gigs?
Dorsten: I miss the people. I miss playing in front of a live audience and getting crowd interactions. I miss seeing people in person. Performing over the internet is a great way to maintain contact with musician friends and fans, but performing live is what I knew most as a musician and it’s not the same performing in front of a screen.
What’s the scene like where you are from?
Dorsten: The music scene in Arizona is great; very supportive people. There are a lot of great venues to play at normally, they are all trying to keep it going with adding restaurants in them, but no big shows for a bit.
3Mind Night: Tulsa HAD a pretty good music scene
Talk us through the new track?
3Mind Blight: Reflections was a Collaboration song that I created with Sophie Dorsten. After making all of the music for it I envisioned a Female lead and Sophie had an amazing voice that fit perfect into the mix. It was a blast to co-write the song and as it progressed it took a life of its own.
Dorsten: It was so cool that 3Mind Blight asked me to join him on this song – he sent me some music and a thought on what it would be about and I wrote some lyrics. It kind of became this dark song about moving on. I love how it turned out.
