Dallas, Texas born, Los Angeles based artist Jasimi refuses to follow your typical crowd. Already gaining support from the likes of Spotify’s editorial playlists ‘New Music Friday’ and receiving over 50,000 monthly listeners, it’s safe to say that this songwriter is turning heads. Back with alternative hip-hop wonder ‘FOOOD’, there’s something for everyone to taste on within the new single. Wanting to make music that will inspire people and make people dance to, Jasimi is a glowing artist destined to find a place in your heart.

What made you want to get into music?

Music has been a pulse in my life for as long as I can remember. It’s always pulled me in, intrigued and lit me up. It sort of feels like I was just peeling back my own layers of self doubt to realize that the deep love that I felt was unique and worthy of exploration.

What come first lyrics or music?

They usually come at the same time, or rather, I love to let an instrument inspire a melody. With this song it was me and my bass that came first. I found that bass line and the lyric “ grab the back of my waistband, come and get some food” just popped into my head. It felt a little silly to say out loud at first because I had no idea what the song would become. But it evolved from there.

How did you all meet?

Myrlin and I met through a mutual friend years ago and he’s been encouraging and supporting my musical discovery and creating with me since then. Garrison hopped on not long after through Myrlin and sprinkles his musical magic in all of the songs in the most graceful, creative and loving ways.

What other talents do you have? (kazop playing, champion toast burner…._

I make a mean stir fry, I’m an actor, used to be a gymnast and am a certified yoga instructor ( though I’ve only ever taught one class)

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I’m brand spanking new to the industry, and so far I actually love it. I love that the streaming services allow artists to make decisions for themselves and allow everyone the opportunity to share their art rather than just the chosen ones. I think that’s dope. Ask me in 5 years and I’ll probably have a more informed response

If you could collaborate with any band / person / producer who would it be?

Dave Bailey from the glass animals. My all time favorite.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

About travel/ adventure: “it’ll never be the right time and you’ll never have enough money. But you just have to go”

What’s in store for you when all this is over?

Right now I’m in France on a birthday adventure. So I suppose some snorkeling is in order. I get to go play a super hero for Amazon next year, so I’m pumped about that.

How are you coping with lockdown?

I’m enjoying it! I’ve got snuggs from my boo and my dog so I’m content.

How is lock down effecting the music scene?

For me since I’m a relatively new artist, it’s given me loads of time in my own little music cave at home. I’m excited to get on stage though and start performing my

Where can we find out more? (also flog us some merch we love tees…..)

No merch yet!! Soon though, I hope

Talk us through the new track / video

Foood is a funky, sexy, etherial eclectic lil song that I made with some of my favorite people. I like that it smacks at points of the song and floats in others.
