Castaway Radio are a Texas three piece consisting of Austin Rominger, Holden Rominger and Clay DeMarco. They formed in 2014 and have taken the indie, rock world by storm. Playing gigs up and down their country and getting worldwide radio play, they really are ones to watch.

Their EP ‘Good Stuff’ consists of five tracks: Good Stuff, Natural Disaster, Script, Sweet Panic and Electric. This EP really feels like a slice of summer. It features heavily cheery guitar melodies and cool synthesisers. Grab a drink, head to the beach and turn this up loud!

We caught up with Castaway Radio and this is what they had to say:

Northern Revive: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words.

Castaway Radio: Brothers pounding out great tunes….instead of each other.

NR: What made you want to get into music?

CR: Music is in our DNA and family – classical piano teaching grandmother Barbara, self-taught accordion flinging and clever lyricist grandfather Bob mixed with a rock-and-roll loving dad who liked to throw parties and take us to concerts…and our dog Chewy (RIP) that listened to our practices, even when we really sucked.

NR: What comes first lyrics or music?

CR: Music 68 % of the time….Lyrics 32 %…depends and changes daily; sometimes things just Frankenstein into another and it comes to life

NR: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

CR: It’s a journey…don’t be in a hurry…don’t lose the vision and keep doing it!

NR: What other bands do we need to be checking out right now?

CR: All you need is Castaway Radio…unless it is like sushi and you need to cleanse your pallet with some ginger between Castaway Radio songs, since they are all so different. We do the best covers of our own material than anyone!

NR: What’s in store for you when all this is over?

CR: A network of musical friends that we can tour and play with wherever, whenever we want…

NR: How are you coping with lockdown?

CR: We literally amped up!

We starting lugging everything, running our own sound and making venues happen on our own.

It all started when we stuck our necks out last Halloween 2020 when “masks” were actually fashionable.

The show was a blast and spurred many more…we have been gigging regularly and getting bigger shows.

NR: Where can we find out more? (also flog us some merch we love tees..)

Get us some T-Shirt sizes and addresses – we will send you a CARE package!

NR: Talk us through the new track / video – GOOD STUFF

CR: The latest Castaway Radio EP release, Good Stuff, plays like Side A of your favourite classic album. Each song leads seamlessly into the next to create the perfect musical transition.  From the first punchy riffs of the title song, the entire EP takes you through a series of musical drama and emotions.  Good Stuff kicks off the exposition by strutting right into the party – it is quick, funky and simply leaves you wanting more!  Natural Disaster then picks up the story line with rising action as we find ourselves reflecting on the complexity of soiled friendships and isolation. Script brings this to a climatic head; in this Yard Birds reminiscent song, you can feel the interpersonal tension as it releases into the chorus.  Inspired by greed, Sweet Panic make one more attempt to amp up the emotion with an explosive opening and close that bookends this Autobahn open-throttle classic.  Electric brings everything back home – this is just straight rock and roll inspired by the mystique and allure of the fairer sex. Sit back and play Good Stuff again and again, it gets better every time.
