Colourful indie pop outfit Five Days North impress with new single “Heaven Hold Us”

The UK’s unsigned music award 2017 Best Unsigned Band winners Five Days North are here and more colourful than ever.

After playing the likes of Dot2Dot Festival, Kendal Calling, Manchester Academy 3 and Gorilla it’s fair to say they are seasoned indie pop professionals.

Heaven Hold Us is jam packed with shimmering guitar lines and button bright electronics that is the perfect antithesis to the current climate.

Let’s hear what they had to say when we caught up with them.

Northern Revive: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..

Five Days North: Darryl here, nuclear consultant by day, singer by night.

NR: What come first lyrics or music?

FDN: It’s a mix depending on the song. Sometimes the lyrics get stuck in your head and the trick is finding a way to write around that, other times it’s a full song and we add the lyrics on last!

NR: How did you all meet?

FDN: We all met at The University of Manchester. Dave and Sam were involved in a band before Five Days North and were at the same halls as Darryl who got involved when the previous singer left. Then after a couple of different members, Zo joined and was shortly followed by Lewis. This line-up stuck and 5 years later here we are!

NR: What has been the best gig you’ve ever played and why?

FDN: It’s hard to pick. However, I think it would have to be Headlining Academy 3. It was such a fun gig and was our biggest headline gig to date. The crowd were fantastic, as always but they seemed even more up for it that night and to hear them sing back your own tracks is just fantastic.

NR: If you could collaborate with any band / person / producer who would it be?

FDN: I’d absolutely love to collaborate with Dua Lipa. I love the 80s influence to her new music and think we’d make a cracking duet!

NR: How are you coping with lockdown?

FDN: Lockdown has been difficult for us as a band. We’ve missed being able to get together, write music and jam together. However, we used the spare time and lack of social interaction to get our heads down, get writing, do live stream gigs and make a load of isolation cover videos (check out our Youtube for the results!). All we need now is for Lockdown 2 to break so we can record the tracks we’ve written!

NR: How is lock down effecting the music scene?

FDN: Lockdown is having a terrible effect on the music industry. We see ourselves as lucky as we all have full time jobs. But the venue staff, promoters, full time musicians and everyone else involved must be really struggling. We hope it’s recoverable and we can get back to some normality soon because music is what we all listen to to keep us going!

NR: What’s the scene like where you are from?

FDN: We’re based around the buzzing Manchester scene which we love. We’ve gigged at all sorts of venues from little bars in Northern quarter to headlining Manchester Academy 3! It’s the perfect place to be for a band of any size and reputation. We can’t wait until we can get back to playing in front of a crowd!

NR: Where can we find out more?

FDN: Check out our webpage where you can find all of our music and social media information!

NR: Talk us through the new track / video

FDN: Our latest track is ‘Heaven Hold Us’. It’s our poppiest tune to date and is based around the nerves, excitement and rush that comes with dating (in less lockdowny times!). It was our first track recording with Joe Cross in Manchester and we couldn’t be happier! The track is available on all major music platforms!
