Top stand-up Rich Hall heading for ‘hoedown’ in Middleton
More top comedy is coming to Middleton Arena – grouchy deadpan American comic Rich Hall will return to the popular venue next year with his ‘Hoedown’ show.
The quick-witted star of television shows like ‘QI’, ‘Stand up for the Week’ and ‘Have I got news for you’ will visit the arena on Saturday 9 June during the second leg of his national tour.
It marks a welcome return for the fiercely funny American after two previous sold-out shows at Middleton Arena in 2009 and 2015.
The grouchy genius was the inspiration behind Matt Groening’s character Moe Szyslak from The Simpsons, and is loved by millions of comedy fans thanks to a string of television credits including ‘Live at the Apollo’ and ‘Channel 4’s Comedy Gala’. Renowned for his crafted tirades and rapid-fire wit, Rich has wowed sold-out stand-up crowds all over the world, winning coveted Perrier and Melbourne International Comedy Festival awards along the way.
His recent BBC Four documentaries, ‘Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You’ and ‘Rich Hall’s Presidential Grudge Match’, as well as his BBC Radio 4 series Rich Hall’s (US Election) Breakdown, have built him a new legion of followers.
His Hoedown show promises a withering dissection of Trump’s America and all of its twists and turns, with stand-up, improvised ballads, musicianship and, ultimately a hilarious, foot-stomping, all-round good time to be had by all.
Rich is well known in the United States for appearing and writing on The David Letterman Show – for which he won two Emmy Awards – an accomplished author, he’s also released three books and three hit live comedy DVDs.
