Introducing DDE’s and their incredible debut EP ‘Calm Before The Storm’

DDE’s are a 3 piece band hailing from Manchester and have got those Mancunian influences running through their veins. Their music features catchy choruses, chunky bass riffs and swaying guitar licks.

You can hear notable Madchester influences in their tunes but they are by no means a one trick pony. Their music clearly takes pieces from 60s music, punk and good old classic rock to create a sound that is as vibrant and exciting as it is loud and energetic.

They released their new EP ‘Calm Before The Storm’ at the beginning of July so we’ve caught up with them to hear what they have got to say.

Northern Revive: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..

DDE’s: DDE’S write anthemic tunes with a rock n roll attitude

NR: What come first lyrics or music?

DDE’s: All depends really, the songs just seem to appear and take a shape of their own. Ive never really been one to sit down and think “Right lets write a song” Ill noodle about on the guitar, something clicks and then I mould the melody and lyrics around that.

NR: How did you all meet?

DDE’s: Me (Dan) and John started it just under 2 years ago and I put an add out on a musicians page and John answered the call. We had our original drummer as well (Jack) but he had to leave for family commitment reasons and so John works with our new drummer (Alex) Dad and it was a no brainer when we heard him play!

NR: What has been the best gig you’ve ever played and why?

Night and Day Cafe is always bang on with atmosphere and overall sound and Jay is a top bloke work with. K-fest was amazing as well when we got to support The Lightning Seeds and too such a great crowd, our first festival that was.

NR: What was the last track you played on Spotify?

DDE’s: You got it all by The Montagues

NR: What would be on your rider?

DDE’s: Fish finger sandwiches, 3 cans of Dandelion and Burdock, a hoover, 2 bic pens (blue) a packet of salt and vinegar Disco’s and oil painting of Chuck Norris

NR: What other talents do you have?

DDE’s: I’m a keen artist and design all of our art work myself

NR: If you could collaborate with any band / person / producer who would it be?

DDE’s: Noel Gallagher, Kings Of Leon, Stereophonics. These are the main influences for us and we are not a shamed to wear those influences on our sleeves. If you like a certain type of music and style then why wouldn’t you want to write songs like that, It’s a no brainer. These would be the top 3 to write with without a doubt.

NR: What other bands do we need to be checking out right now?

DDE’s: The Montagues, Pretty Cartel, Downstairs Monsters and The Capollos

NR: How are you coping with lockdown?

DDE’s: Good really, we have written 8 new songs that have a proper rock n roll stomp to them and a much heavy sound. Its probably come out of frustration but they proper bangers and cant wait play them live now so all in all we aint been that bad and a decent set of tunes has come from it.
