Introducing Single Ruin and new single ‘cloud.nine’

Combining electronic alt-pop vibes with organic sounds such as bass, guitar and drums, Single Ruin is certainly a project you won’t be getting enough of any time soon. The adventure of producer and songwriter Josh P Gale, Single Ruin has already garnered attention from the likes of EARMILK, Music Crowns and CLOUT. For new music coming out, Josh is turning his attention to the main instrument he plays live as Single Ruin, Drums. Live recorded drums feature heavily in these up coming recordings bringing an all round edgier and more rock focused sound.

Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..

Introverted producer / songwriter who becomes extroverted on stage (go figure!?)

What made you want to get into music?

Its the only thing I knew naturally how to do, its the way I communicate, I thought it would be a dream come true to try and make it my main source of income and feel lucky that is precisely what I achieved. Its can be hard work and a volatile environment to make your profession but I love it! (Mostly)

How do you transfer that onstage energy to the studio?

Get the mood lights / candles out, turn it up, dance on the nearest table whilst singing the vocals maybe pour a glass of tequila (or other such fun drinks) if your feeling that your creativity is particularly boring that day / night. I’ve done all these things in the pursuit of creativity both separately or together.

Also if your not feeling it get the hell out of there and try again another day or switch songs. Unless you’ve been trying to finish it forever then get back to work 😉

What was the last track you played on Spotify?

I don’t use Spotify all the time tbh and awkwardly it was my own song Unique but the last song I typed into my phone to listen to today was I.W.G.F.U – Tiger Cub, what a jam!

What would be on your rider?

As long as its not plastic bottles I’m grateful for anything. That is how I start my rider before I give any suggestions. You do still have to go out of your way to find anything for water that isn’t plastic tho so I get it but I don’t like it all the same.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

To give up, obviously this isn’t the best advice and to be honest (and luckily) I havent heard it a lot of times. I do remember the times I have heard it tho, usually from people who don’t know my determination or work ethic well. It lights some sort or rebellious fire inside of me and it usually ends up with me so hell bent to prove that person wrong that I do my best work or work harder then ever to secure work for projects and people that are worth celebrating and are the highlights of the year.

I don’t give up easily and I’m secure in my self that I am good enough to make a living out of music but I sadistically love hearing someone saying something stupid like that and knowing that I will respond accordingly usually with a venomous grin or glint in my eye as I set about proving that someone wrong.

I have had incredibly positive and life assuring advice from loads of people just to say, but its the first thing that came into my head and I havent discussed how it makes me react much before.

If you could open for any band / act / solo artist who would it be?

Tame Impala would be ludicrously cool!

What other bands do we need to be checking out right now?

Yes lets rep some Brighton influences! Hopefully you’ve heard of some already as they are all killing it. In no particular order Tiger Cub, Blood Red Shoes, ARXX, Snayx, CLT DRP, Howard Kaye and Naipia.

Also not from Brighton, I play drums live for Lotusbliss. I also have the pleasure of having Eliot Kid Danger supporting my at Brighton Electric single release on the 24th of Feb so go check all them out.

What’s in store for you when all this is over?

Straight after answering your questions I will dive back into the studio to program more lighting for my live show at Brighton Electric on the 24th of Feb.

I am releasing an EP titled , to keep in theme with the question I answered above (feels like I planned this now but honestly I didn’t mean too). Its the title track of the ep which I wrote after a zoom call with some music industry “big wig” who said if I ever wanted to work for them I needed to give up being an artist, they said to call them when I do and they might consider hiring me.. so instead of telling them to fuck off over the phone I was polite and English and sent all that pent up rage into the studio straight after haha 😉

Im way better at communicating via songwriting any how.

Where can we find out more? (also flog us some merch we love tees…..)

@singleruin for FB / Insta and very very occasionally twitter. to check out cool things like reviews and this interview once it gets published

YouTube is Single Ruin

Unfortunately (as you said rep march) I don’t have an online store so come catch me at a show and Il flog it in person.
