Suave Martyrs burst onto the scene in 2019 they’ve gone from strength to strength playing with Alias Kid at Deaf Institute and selling out Jimmy’s.
Their latest single Tell Me What You Wanna is a departure from their usual sound but still manages to uphold the bands indie rock values.
Northern Revive had a chat with them and this is what we found out.
Northern Revive: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..
Suave Martyrs: Suave, sophisticated and shit hot
NR: What’s the writing process?
SM: It’s all different really, cause we all write songs the music can come from anywhere. This one came from a beat that Biscuit worked with our producer to create. Then guitars and bass were added to that loop and Brad came in with the vocals
NR: How did you all meet?
SM: It’s all a mix Ben and Stu met at school, I answered an ad looking for a guitarist. Then when our drummer left I heard Biscuit banging away next door and asked him to join on the spot. Then we were recommended Brad by a mutual friend
NR: What has been the best gig you’ve ever played and why?
SM: It’s a toss-up between our first with Biscuit which was a sold out gig at the Deaf Institute or our last one before lockdown in Leeds which had a brilliant energy
NR: What was the last track you played on Spotify?
SM: The last track I played on Spotify was Friction by Television
NR: What would be on your rider?
SM: Well we have been putting on our own gigs for a while now and our rider when we put one on is currently 76 cans of Galahad a bottle of whisky and a bottle of spiced rum
NR: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
SM: To have gigs back! And for bands to be putting on gigs
NR: How are you coping with lockdown?
SM: Not too badly we obviously miss gigging, but we have been able to keep writing and got in the studio before lockdown so that’s keeping us going.
NR: Where can we find out more?
SM: Yeah! Find us on our socials Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and our website where you will find merch and all that jazz, but if you message any of our pages we will be able to help you out. We might even be able to sort something exclusive for people!
NR: Talk us through the new track / video
SM: We are really excited about ‘Tell Me What You Wanna’ it’s the first song that we wrote with Brad in the band. So it’s really cool to see that process through!
