Abi Mia is a London based singer-songwriter who has been writing and performing music for over 10 years.
Fly Your Way is a beautiful singer-songwriter ballad featuring Abi’s incredible piano skills. The song focuses on taking your own path and living life the way you’re meant to instead of being something you’re not. Her soaring vocals fly over the piano melody creating an easy listening yet powerful piece of music.
Here is what she had to say when Northern Revive caught up with her.
Northern Revive: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..
Abi Mia: Abi Mia -positive and empowering pop singer-songwriter from London
NR: What made you want to get into music?
AM: Music has always played an important role in my life – it allows me to express myself and be creative in ways that I wouldn’t usually be brave enough to do. Music gives me confidence! Singing and song writing both make me feel free and joyful and I just love spreading those feelings to those who listen to my music! There are no rules just be yourself!
NR: What’s the writing process?
AM: I usually get inspired by something happening in my life or current events in the world. So I choose a topic first and usually start by writing a few lyrics. Although sometimes I get a great piano intro or melody first and then write the song that way! Usually the songs I like the best are the ones I write the fastest- the ideas just flow. Sometimes I get ideas at very inconvenient times but always try to record them or write something down so I don’t forget!
NR: What other talents do you have?
AM: I am very strong! I used to be a competitive weightlifter and although I am not quite at that level anymore I do love to keep training so I am strong and powerful!
NR: If you could collaborate with any band / person / producer who would it be?
AM: It would be a dream to collaborate with Alicia keys – I love the way a lot of her songs give over important messages and of course her vocals and piano skills are out of this world! I could learn a lot from her!
NR: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
AM: Don’t try to sound like someone else. There is only one Abi Mia – use your skills the best you can!
NR: How are you coping with lockdown?
AM: I am really fortunate to have coped well with lockdown. Of course there have been a few challenges as everyone has had but I have used the time to write many new songs, hone in on my vocal and piano skills and generally feeling very productive. The slower pace of life was actually a welcome break for me and it also gave me the time to speak to my friends and family a lot more when we were checking in with each other.
NR: How is lock down effecting the music scene?
AM: It has changed it completely. Live gigs are few and far between but hopefully they will start becoming more possible again. In the meantime many singers and musicians have been using online platforms a lot more for live performances and to connect with their fans etc. I know for myself I have been using my Instagram page to go live weekly to sing and connect with my followers and it has been great. I think like myself lockdown has given musicians the time to get creative and write new music and work on new projects which is great! Of course let’s hope things keep going in the right direction and live shows become possible!
NR: Where can we find out more?
AM: My main platform to share my music is my Instagram page. I also regularly post videos on my YouTube channel ‘Abi Mia’.
NR: Talk us through the new track / video
AM: My new single is called ‘Fly Your Way ‘ – I wrote it at a time in my life where I was thinking more about what I wanted to do with my life rather than living the way others expected me to. The song is about learning to love who you are and having the courage to ‘fly away’ and choose the path that is right for you. ‘Fly Your Way’. I hope this gives other people the feeling that they can be themselves and live in a way that is right for them! What suits one person isn’t necessarily right for someone else. Hopefully this will uplift and empower people to go for what they want!
