Lukas Setto’s new single ‘About Time’ was released on the 12th March 2021 and has already grabbed the attention of music lovers everywhere.

His attention to detail can be seen through his bright melodies, upbeat vocals and stellar production. He has played at iconic venues such as the Shepherd’s Bush Empire and has supported the likes of Ne-Yo and Timberland. He really is one to watch.

About Time combines all of Lukas’ influences and blends them effortlessly together to create a positive, floor filling, R&B/ soul record which would be a surefire hit in any nightclub or house party. This track feels quite nostalgic whilst also managing to sound modern and relevant, a feat not many can manage.

Northern Revive Magazine caught up with Lukas and this is what he had to say:

Northern Revive: What made you want to get into music?

Lukas Setto: To be honest it was my decision to choose GCSE music over P.E. – and I did that out of petulance because I felt I wasn’t getting the grades I deserved in P.E.

I excelled in sports and without being conceited, I was one of the best at whatever sports I put my hand to. My teachers would always say that I didn’t put enough effort in and I would argue, “but I won”. To cut a long story short, I blagged my way onto music GSCE by teaching myself a few chords on the guitar (this was before I knew I could sing) to get onto the course. That is where my musical journey began.

NR: What comes first lyrics or music?

LS: 9 times out of 10 the music would come first, followed by melody and then lyrics.

NR: What was the last track you played on Spotify?

LS: ‘Find Your Love’ by Drake.

NR: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

LS: I can’t remember the guy’s name, but at an audition many years ago he said to me, “If you are going to succeed in the music business, you’ll need to be persistent and develop a thick skin, because you’ll have more doors shut in your face than not”.

NR: What other bands do we need to be checking out right now?

LS: If you are a fan of 70’s and 80’s inspired Soul then check out an artist named Mayer Hawthorne!

NR: What’s in store for you when all this is over?

LS: Hopefully lots and lots of gigs!

NR: How are you coping with lockdown?

LS: I actually enjoyed the first couple of months of lockdown number 1. I spent a lot of time with my family, enjoyed the weather and went on more walks than I’ve ever done before in my life and was able to write plenty of songs. So, all in all I coped pretty well, but without my family, music and the nice weather it would’ve been a lot more difficult, hence the 2021 lockdown is a little more difficult to deal with.

NR: How is lock down affecting the music scene?

LS: It’s been well documented how much of a negative impact lockdown has had on the music scene, especially the live scene for obvious reasons. The only positive I can take from it is the desire I think there will be for live music once lockdown has lifted – and that will benefit us all.

NR: Where can we find out more?

LS: Check out my website to find out more about me, my music and my journey – and you’ll also find all the links to my other socials.

NR: Talk us through the new track

LS: With my new track ‘About Time’ I wanted to create something uplifting, that crossed multiple genres. For example, I love R&B and Soul music which is where my roots are. But I’m also a big fan of Pop music, so I wanted all 3 to collide. Then when it came to lyrics, I like to write about relationships (particularly the sexual side of a relationship), but then use wordplay so that the song can be interpreted in different ways and used in different scenarios.
